To be an actor and to love film is to be mesmerized when you find yourself in the very setting one of your favorite films was made. And on top of that to give an interview at Place Vendome and to share that love of film with the new generation.
So here is what happened on a Lovely afternoon at Place Vendome and the Ritz Paris. Essential information first. Tea time at the Ritz has to be booked very early or you will not be seated. Your best option will be the Ritz patisserie behind Place Vendome. If you get a chance: treat yourself to a cup of tea and maybe just maybe Audrey Hepburn might be just round the corner. I meant to go to Place Vendôme for some time, but never managed to be relaxed enough to make that journey. Indeed I believe that some places ought to be experienced in a certain frame of mind to be truly appreciated. So off I went one autumn afternoon as I wander in Paris. The film Love in the Afternoon, made in 1957, Audrey Hepburn starred with Gary Cooper in the film directed by Billy Wilder. I am sure IMBDM and other sites will give you all the technical info about it, but what makes this film a delight for me is the delicious performance by young Audrey and that desired to fall in love and be loved. And on top of that THE FASHION IN THIS FILM IS MAGICAL. All of Audrey Hepburn's costumes in Love in the afternoon were made by Hubert de Givenchy. Givenchy has made a few black dresses for Audrey Hepburn's personage Ariane. By that time Givenchy has become Audrey Hepburn's default designer, we shall come back to that in our dedicated GIVENCHY article! As I stood admiring the colonne Vendome standing in this rather exclusive place, two studenst approached me asking to interview me. They wanted to know my thoughts and feeling of the Place Vendome. I was happy to obliged and use this opportunity to tell them about the film LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON, which they never heard about. Rather thrilled with my meeting with the youngsters I thougt well I might as well get in teh Ritz and see how well it has changed from the film. And so I went for tea at the Ritz and was enchanted to see that it has kept its old school charm. The garden and its fountain gives a much needed cool and leafy breee in this overbuild Paris. So there was my duty done, on a lovely afternoon in Paris I shared this wonderful film and experienced a bit of magic dust. Yes place Vendome and the Ritz are rather excusive places, but streets belongs to everybody and you can still watch LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON anytime. LATEST NEWS ~
