At the Intersection of Cultures : A Classic Tale for our Contemporary World' was for the First International Conference in Iran-Teheran University Shakespeare Studies: Not of an Age but for All Ages' in 2014, AVAILABLE TO READ HERE ' Not sure why I didn't end up travelling to Iran to present it or if there has been other similar events in Iran which I would be delighted to attend...Shakespeare is a great way to discuss issues! So..I seems to have a thing with writing an Academic paper whenever the National theatre puts on Othello. It feels like a good time to reflect on various issues. So before I share my new Academic paper on 'BESTIALITY AND OTHER STEREOTYPES TOWARDS MEN OF AFRICAN ORIGINS: From Shakespeare's Othello to R. Kelly' COMING SOON HERE. PYGMALION by George Bernard Shaw ~ 4 to 8 October 2022 at Hampton Hill Theatre. ABSOLUTELY EXCITED TO GET BACK ON A THEATRE STAGE AFTER 3 YEARS!
Performing in PYGMALION by George Bernard Shaw, 4 to 8 October 2022 With Teddington Theatre at Hampton Hill Theatre. BOOKINGS https://thelittleboxoffice.com/teddingtontheatreclub/event/view/162325 LARKIN WITH WOMEN by Ben Brown COME SEE MY FRIENDS FROM STRUT AND FRET THEATRE ! The Excellent Danny Wain is LARKING in LARKIN WITH WOMEN! More info and bookings for LARKIN WITH WOMEN ON https://www.oldredliontheatre.co.uk/LarkinWithWoman.html LET'S THEATRE OUR WAY THROUGH THIS LIFE!!! KING LEAR at Shakespeare Globe Theatre with Kathryn Hunter as Lear was the one of the GREATEST PERFORMANCES I HAVE EVER SEEN! It was only a 6 weeks performance and fully booked most times so I was extremely lucky to get a ticket at the gallery thanks to unknown patron who kindly shared her spare ticket with me. Thank you kind stranger! Who is that actress and why I have never heard of her but I know way too much about the Kardashians???!!! Culture has been hijacked to a level where the most talented people in the Arts have to be actively searched for rather than their talent being recognised by the masses and their generation because the culure of nothingness and instagram has highjack everything. Kathryn Hunter performance as King Lear WAS PERFECTION. She achieved what I called the Holy Trinity in actors technique in every word, sound and gesture on the Globe stage. I could not believe what I was witnessing. I wept. We could hear a pin drop in the whole Globe when King Lear wept for his Cordelia. See my video. Yes I had to immortalize that moment because THAT was out of this world. I hope the Globe has recorded that performance and many generations of actors will learn the craft by watching her. I was shock by a statement of an actress who made it in Hollywood recently spoke of how she was right to drop put of drama school because she is now famous. Ok good for you actress who made it, BUT THE CRAFT OF ACTING ON STAGE IS DIFFERENT FROM JUST STANDING ON A FILM SET !!! Everyone and anyone can act for film but to command the attention of an audience for 3 hours, in a language written 400 years ago, using your whole body, speech and sound to convey truthful emotions is not as easy as standing on your mark and repeating your 5 words text on cues and break for camera change! The lack of acknowledgement of what acting actually is; and what it takes to deliver performances to the calibre of Kathryn Hunter is problematic because today's actors think they are great actors because they got a deal with the Netflix cash machine. Kathryn Hunter's perfomance in King Lear embodied EVERYTHING I learnt during my training at Drama schools. I trained at ALRA (Academy of Live and Recorded Arts) and also Mountview theatre Arts in London. What I learn there is that Acting requires strong technical work to excel. Kathryn perfomance made me want to try even more to get better at my craft. And Katryn Hunter IS a trainer herself and director at RADA the great drama school where the greats such as my Aunt Vivien trained. Yes that is Vivien Leigh that I called my Aunt because the level of work this woman achieved in films and theatre has become so familiar to me in studying her work that she has become a part of my inner family. I remember volunteering at the GLOBE THEATRE and whilst working for tHe Jesuit Reugee Service in London Bridge, It was the first season by acclaimed artistic direcor Dominic Dromgoole. The joy of seeing plays as often as I like and the greatness of some of the crafts I saw made me quit my job and train as an actor at ALRA because I understood then and there that it requires a high level of dedication and work to work on the footsteps of the likes of Shakespeare and be an Artist. Acting is work and acting takes a deal great deal of work to achieve excellence. On that note... let me go to rehearsal... That's the review on some of TEDDINTON THEATRE CLUB (TTC) PODCASTS. I am planning to listen to each of them and share them regularly here #audiotorium! The new installment of #audiotorium released today is THE RAVEN by Edgar Allan Poe and read by yours truly: Shana de Carsignac Mongwanga! Listen and share here https://www.buzzsprout.com/1303714/6472198-twisted-christmas-the-raven Each day TTC will share a new story, so keep listening with their #audiotorium! Check out this great review by Mark Aspen below although it critically missed THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM by Edgar Allan Poe and read by Dave Brickwood and directed by Nigel Cole. This 45 minutes performance had become A REFERENCE PODCAST FOR ME! It will enthrall all your senses for eternity. Listen here https://www.buzzsprout.com/1303714/5840026-13-frights-of-halloween-the-pit-and-the-pendulum Also check out THE SIGNAL MAN by Charles Dickens read by Andy Smith https://www.buzzsprout.com/1303714/6471778-twisted-christmas-the-signal-man Mark Aspen review https://markaspen.com/2020/11/13/13-frights/ TEDDINGTON THEATRE CLUB - since 1927 ! http://www.teddingtontheatreclub.org.uk/ BLUE FIRE THEATRE Another fantastic theatre busy making great podcast content is BLUE FIRE THEATRE which I didn't know about, but I am hooked now! I listened to the story of IGNATIUS SANCHO - THE FIRST BLACK MAN WHO VOTED IN THE UK, who was also a man of letters, composer, musician. An incredible story told by Paterson Joseph, interviewed by Lottie Walker. Podcasts gives us the time to connect with such extraordinary stories, falling in awe of story tellers and the stories told. See all BLUE FIRE THEATRE PODCAST HERE https://famouspeopleyouveneverheardof.buzzsprout.com/ https://twitter.com/bluefire_tc http://www.bluefiretheatre.co.uk/ SHAKESPEARE CONNECT ARCHIVES Check out some of our past readings and Shakepseare plays we tool part on https://athena-africalives.weebly.com/shakespeare-connect.html LA COMÉDIE FRANCAISE - For Expat people like myself all countries are homes and having grown up in..Belgium, does it makes no sense that France National Theatre is one of my favorite theatre? But there you go. Although it is un-representative of its population, un-diverse and just archaic in so many ways I still arbor a hope that the theatre of Moliere created in 1680 will take it's place in the 21st century. I watched a re-run of 1974 production of Ondine with young Isabelle Adjani which was one of the highlights of my lock-down! SUPERB AND TIMELESS PRODUCTION OF ONDINE! There was a also Uncle Vanya and Peter Gynt. I am afraid I gave up during the 4 HOUR 45 MINUTES OF THE PLAY PEER GYNT by Ibsen. I still bamboozled by those 2 hours I spent and I promise myself to dive into that play...in this lifetime. https://www.comedie-francaise.fr/index.html UK NATIONAL THEATRE - Back home in the UK I was thrilled to watch and critique some of the production such as ANTOMY AND CLEOPATRA with Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okenodo. I found the over the top, streets, slang and Beyonce-lemonade interpretation of Ms Okenodo was out of place for me. Cleopatra is queen of Egypt and nothing in that show conveyed that. But at least the UK National theatre has gusto, diversity and is beyond the backwardness of gender and race casting. Ever so grateful for that. Take note La Comédie Francaise! https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/ OPERA - FANTASIO by Offenbach based on Paul de Musset writings, created in 1872 at the the Opera comique is a delight! Catch this gloriously modern opera, it is a MUST SEE! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZxKz7_ylDc&feature=emb_title and https://www.opera-comique.com/fr/saisons/saison-2017/fantasio FLORILEGE FASHION CONNECTION! Because fashion is increasingly threading on art and theatrical shows I had to share some of the imaginative great fashion shows during this lock-down. LOUIS VUITTON SPRING SUMMER 2021 - Nicolas Ghesquière made a bold VOTE fashion statement. Following #BLACKLIVESMATTER and #BLACKOUTUESDAY movements and the shift it operated worldwide, it is great to see that we are all in this together and regardless of your position you can speak out and be involved. Nicolas Ghesquière presented his new Louis Vuitton Women's Spring-Summer 2021 Collection at Samaritaine in Paris.
