CELEBRATING COMMONWEALTH DAY! I was thrilled to have been invited in the past by The Commonwealth Secretariat to feature some of my painting work and share Congolese women perspectives for Human Rights day. I have grown to value the Commonwealth as an institution that strives to maintain that link of friendship amongst Nations!
And I share my desire at the times that maybe CONGO DRC should join in! WHERE DO WE SIGN IN? I was proud to showcase my painting of LADY CONGO which I created for the GLOBAL SUMMIT ON SEXUAL VIOLENCE. This artwork LADY CONGO summaries any speech I make about Congo DRC which reflects what Congolese people say about their countries: LADY CONGO carries her country in her body. She is often the breadwinner, sacrifices her life for people in her community to thrive. Yet she is abused, rape and discarded so often.
LADY CONGO wears Congo DRC on her head like a scarf. Congo an integral part of her. She refuses the balkanisation of her country which leads to the planned atrocities in the regions because minerals such as Coltan which are used for technologies, mobile phones, computers, IT, video games, ect.
Red petals indicated areas where the minerals are and it coincide with where atrocities against women are more prevalent. There is a correlation between rape of Congolese woman and blood minerals
